Well a day does not seem to go by without Google announcing yet another enhancement to their search offering today it’s the turn of “Real Time Search”.

Over at the Google blog the features are explained in more detail but as brief snapshot here is a comment from Amit Singhal, Google Fellow : “Our real-time search features are based on more than a dozen new search technologies that enable us to monitor more than a billion documents and process hundreds of millions of real-time changes each day.

“Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our new partners that we’re announcing today: Facebook, MySpace, FriendFeed, Jaiku and Identi.ca — along with Twitter, which we announced a few weeks ago.”

Microsoft’s Bing has already introduced a beta version of real time search, using Twitter it is going to be intersing to see how this changes the landscape for search engine professionals as more and more control moves to the searcher themselves!

Quite a few announcements yesterday from Google one of the most important has to be the one about Social Search -launched on google labs that is based on the “social graph” principles whereby all friends and associated content within your cirlce should provide a more relevant source of results:-

“(..) a new feature that allows you to see results for queries from people in your social network. This works by using your Google Profile. If you fill it out with the other social networks you’re a member of, such as FriendFeed, Google will scan who you are connected to and give your results from those people.

This opens up a whole new area to certain sectors especially travel and I will let Kevin May over at tnooz explain it in detail, it also has a major impact on SEO and how people get the best results and act on them something  that is discussed here on huomah.
