Quite a few announcements yesterday from Google one of the most important has to be the one about Social Search -launched on google labs that is based on the “social graph” principles whereby all friends and associated content within your cirlce should provide a more relevant source of results:-
“(..) a new feature that allows you to see results for queries from people in your social network. This works by using your Google Profile. If you fill it out with the other social networks you’re a member of, such as FriendFeed, Google will scan who you are connected to and give your results from those people.”
This opens up a whole new area to certain sectors especially travel and I will let Kevin May over at tnooz explain it in detail, it also has a major impact on SEO and how people get the best results and act on them something that is discussed here on huomah.
Looking at it from a travel professional point of view surface could be a big part of the way we deliver our content to the end user; however it needs to be but positioned at a reasonable price and with valid content. If these elements are covered then it could be part of the consumer research & planning cycle – allowing two-way integration with the web – research on Surface, post your research back to the web to share with friends or family and then book.
It looks vey impressive and the potential is vast but as this is still an experiment its very early days but ones that could herald a new form of interactivity into the travel market?

A new startup site may prove useful for travellers to New Zealand transfercar have got together with major car rental companies including Europcar, Apollo and Ace and arrange for the ‘relocation cars’ that need to transported to different branches.
These are listed on Transfercar’s website, along with the dates they’re available, and interested customers can book online after registering with Transfercar.
Drivers can also request to be notified by text message when cars are available for routes they’d like to travel. Most vehicles include basic insurance as well as ferry tickets between the North and South island, so no hidden fees even sometimes throwing in a full tank of fuel.
