SOUTH Africa is promoting the ultimate golf destination – a par 3 hole with a US$1 million prize for the first golfer to score a hole in one. It’s quite a long hole for a par 3 – about 500 yards – and most of that is straight down.

This extreme golf hole is based at the Legends Golf and Safari Resort, within the Entabeni Safari Conservancy in South Africa’s north-eastern Limpopo province. It’s no mean feet to get to the tee as it involves a short helicopter ride, and brave golfers must teeter “terrifyingly close to the edge” in order to make their shot. The ball takes almost 30 seconds to reach the ground. It’s actually the 19th hole on the course, with the other 18 designed by several world golfing legends.

A round of 18 costs about £35, with the Extreme 19th costing about £550 for four people including the helicopter ride, a souvenir cap and glove and a DVD of you playing the hole.
